Toncoin (TON) is the coin of The Open Network blockchain. The project was started in 2018 by the Telegram team led by the Durov brothers, and since 2020 it has been developed by an independent community and the TON Foundation. How does the TON network work?
The Open Network runs on Proof-of-Stake: blocks are confirmed by validators who have staked TON. The network uses sharding to spread the load across many chains, so transfers settle in seconds and fees stay low even with many users.
